Kartika holds painting exhibition

JAKARTA (JP): Kartika Affandi, daughter of the late Affandi, is holding a painting exhibition at the gallery of the Ministry of Education and Culture in Gambir, Central Jakarta, to celebrate her 20-year career as an expressionist painter.

The exhibition of 75 works was opened Wednesday evening by Nunus Supardi, secretary to the director general of culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture. It will last until Aug. 13.

The displayed paintings include Kartika's latest work called Penari dan Topengku, which tells of her desire to be a dancer, and another work named Kepalaku Pecah, which has a goat's brain as its model.

The exhibition also features a portrait of Kartika's late father Affandi, known as one of Indonesia's greatest painters.

These paintings are not for sale, Kartika said at the opening ceremony. She insisted she wants to be known through her own works and not because she is Affandi's daughter. (05)
