Karoline Leavitt Reveals Reason for Stepping Down as Donald Trump's Press Secretary
Karoline Leavitt has finally revealed her deep feelings after deciding to leave her post as Donald Trump’s press secretary. The 29-year-old, who announced her resignation from the president’s inner circle on 12 August, appeared to be enjoying her first days away from the hustle and bustle of politics.
In an Instagram post on Sunday evening (6/9), Leavitt shared a rare photo with her baby daughter, Viviana. In the photo, Leavitt, wearing a pink waistcoat and white trousers, is seen carrying baby Vivi near a bright window. The baby is her child with her 61-year-old husband, Nicholas Riccio.
Alongside the photo, Leavitt shared a heart-touching quote with her 3.1 million followers. The quote read: “There is a little person who thinks your arms are the safest place on earth. No achievement will ever mean more than that.” The message seemed to affirm that her role as a mother is far more precious to her than a career under Trump’s leadership.
The post was immediately flooded with positive comments from her followers. Many supported her decision to prioritise her family. “Always the right choice,” wrote one netizen. Another follower added that being a mother is the greatest gift that cannot be replaced by money or any position.
When announcing Leavitt’s resignation last month, Donald Trump said his former press secretary wanted to spend more time with her children and family. Trump said he fully understood and respected the decision.
In an interview with Markie Martin on Morning in America on NewsNation, Leavitt explained in detail the reasons behind her decision. She admitted that being a working mother is a major challenge that demands considerable sacrifice.
“You have to prioritise your time. You have to turn down many opportunities that come your way because you want to be there at your children’s bedtime every night,” Leavitt said. She added that over the past 20 months, her job had been a difficult balancing act.
The birth of her second daughter in May was a turning point for Leavitt. She felt her heart change and realised her children needed her full attention around the clock. After lengthy discussions with her husband and prayer, she felt God was assuring her that stepping down was the right move for her family.
Although she loves her job and supports the president’s vision, Leavitt felt Trump deserved a press secretary who could be on full-time standby. “The president deserves a press secretary who can be here, literally 24/7,” she concluded.
