Karo Regional Leadership Forum Establishes Four Posts to Prepare for Mount Sinabung Eruption
Karo (ANTARA) - The Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda) of Karo Regency, North Sumatra, has mobilised personnel and established four emergency posts as an anticipatory measure against the potential eruption of Mount Sinabung, which is currently showing increased volcanic activity.
This state of readiness was marked by a disaster alert assembly held at the Lingga Village Football Field, Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency, on Tuesday.
The assembly was led by the Commander of the 0205/Karo Military District, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Panjaitan, acting as the Head of the Emergency Disaster Task Force. It was attended by members of Forkopimda, the TNI-Polri (Indonesian National Armed Forces and National Police), regional officials, district and village governments, and other relevant stakeholders.
“This alert assembly is a form of our collective readiness in facing the potential eruption of Mount Sinabung. All elements must understand their respective duties and responsibilities and must continuously strengthen coordination in the field,” he stated.
He added that preparedness should not only occur when an eruption happens but must be prepared early, so that every development in volcanic activity can be responded to quickly and in a coordinated manner.
As part of the anticipatory measures, the Karo Forkopimda has prepared four alert posts that will serve as coordination centres for handling emergency conditions.
These four posts include the Integrated Alert Post at the Simpang Empat District Military Command Office, Post 1 in Kuta Gugung Village, Post 2 in Simpang Tiga Kicat, and Post 3 in Payung Village.
The posts are prepared to support the monitoring of situational developments, personnel coordination, public services, and the execution of evacuations should conditions necessitate displacement.
All relevant parties have also been requested to ensure the readiness of equipment, vehicles, personnel, evacuation routes, and other supporting needs so that handling can be carried out swiftly and accurately if Mount Sinabung’s activity increases.
The Karo Regency Government has urged the public to remain calm and avoid panic, and to follow all information and directives issued by the government and authorised agencies.
The public is also advised not to easily believe or spread unverified information to prevent panic amidst the rising activity of Mount Sinabung.
Any developments in volcanic activity will be communicated through official government information channels and relevant agencies.
Through this alert assembly, the Karo Forkopimda reaffirmed its collective readiness to strengthen disaster mitigation and response to minimise the risks and impacts that may arise from Mount Sinabung’s activity.
