Karo Police Arrest Fugitive in Fatal Assault Case
The newly formed Cobra Team of the Karo Police Criminal Investigation Unit has demonstrated its effectiveness. Led directly by Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Hizkia Siagian, the team uncovered a case of alleged aggravated assault resulting in the death of a man in Perbesi Village, Tigabinanga District, Karo Regency. This case has become a prominent one since AKP Hizkia assumed the role of Karo Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head. Together with Tigabinanga Police Chief AKP Tarigan and General Crimes Unit Head Ipda Indra Marbun, the Cobra Team moved swiftly to arrest a man with the initials EVSD (29), who had previously been a fugitive, on Friday, 3 July at around 1:00 PM WIB in Perbesi Village. The case relates to the alleged criminal act of aggravated assault causing death, as stipulated in Article 466, paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. The victim, JKK (57), was a resident of Perbesi Village. Investigations revealed that the incident began on Saturday night, 30 May, when the victim, who according to family and residents suffered from a mental disorder, went on a rampage around a village hall, overturning parked motorcycles and throwing stones at residents’ houses. In that situation, the victim was allegedly subjected to a mob attack or assault by residents, sustaining serious injuries, particularly to the head. The victim received treatment at a health facility before being referred to Kabanjahe General Hospital. However, in the early hours of Sunday, 31 May, the victim was pronounced dead. Suspecting foul play in the victim’s death, the family reported the incident to the Tigabinanga Police. Following up on the report, the Karo Police Cobra Team and investigators conducted an intensive series of inquiries, including an autopsy on the victim’s body. From this series of investigations, officers identified the involvement of suspect EVSD. Armed with information on the suspect’s whereabouts, the Cobra Team immediately moved to Perbesi Village and successfully apprehended the suspect without resistance. The suspect was then taken to the Karo Police headquarters for further examination. During the arrest, police also secured evidence including a piece of bamboo, a white T-shirt with the word ‘Hugo’, a pair of sandals, and a pair of blue trousers, all believed to be connected to the crime.
