The Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office in North Sumatra, Danke Rajagukguk, has expressed his apologies for the error in prosecuting videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu in a case of alleged markup in the management and creation of local village communication and informatics network installations in Karo Regency for the Fiscal Years 2020-2023.

Amsal Sitepu has now been acquitted by the Medan Corruption Court as it was not proven that he committed corruption in the village profile video production project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.

Danke admitted his mistake and lapse in judgment in prosecuting Amsal Sitepu. “We apologise for all our errors and oversights,” said Danke Rajagukguk during a meeting with the DPR’s Commission III and Amsal Sitepu at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 April 2026.

Danke expressed thanks to the DPR’s Commission III for all the input and criticism provided.

“Thank you, Mr Chairman. As the Head of the Karo Prosecutor’s Office, I am very grateful for the input and criticism provided by the members of Commission III so that we can improve and implement it as conveyed by you all,” he stated.

Previously, the videographer from Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Amsal Christy Sitepu, came under scrutiny for being prosecuted on suspicion of corruption in the village profile video production project, with state losses amounting to Rp202 million.

On 20 February, Amsal was sentenced to two years in prison and required to pay restitution of Rp50 million, with the provision that failure to pay would result in an additional three months’ imprisonment.

Amsal, who is also the Director of CV PromiseLand, was named a suspect in November 2025 and brought to trial as a defendant a month later.

He became an inmate after being prosecuted for committing a corruption offence following cooperation with several villages in four sub-districts in Karo Regency.

In that cooperation process, he acted as the provider or partner to the village government in the village profile video production project, funded by the Village Fund Budget.

The activity was part of the programme for managing and creating local village communication and informatics networks in the fiscal years 2020 to 2022. In the project, the defendant proposed a cost of Rp30 million per village for video production through proposals to the village heads.
