Karimunjaya flight resumes
SEMARANG: Scheduled air services between Semarang and Karimunjaya Island in the Java Sea will soon resume after they were stopped last December.
Deraya Air Service (DAS), a private airline operator, has agreed to fill the vacuum after it secured a subsidy from the Central Java provincial government for the operation, the Antara news agency reported.
The airline will serve the route with a 17-seater Casa 212 plane.
The resumption of scheduled flights will allow the island to develop its tourism potential. It will also rescue the Rp 1.15 billion Dewadaru airport, which was inaugurated in 1991 and has been neglected since December 1993. (emb)
