Karet Station Temporarily Closed, KAI Commuter Ensures Normal KRL Service
Karet Station has officially been closed temporarily from 1 September until 31 December 2026 to support the revitalisation and construction of supporting facilities for integration with BNI City Station, also known as Sudirman Baru. Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the first day of the station closure proceeded smoothly.
Commuter Line users accessing the Karet Station area are being redirected to BNI City Station via the Jalan Haji Mas Mansyub access route.
“Based on the evaluation of the first day of integration between Karet Station and Sudirman Baru Station, the process has been quite conducive,” said Karina on Tuesday (1/9).
She added that KAI Commuter will continue to monitor the condition of KRL passengers in the field, particularly during morning and evening peak hours. This monitoring is being conducted to ensure that passenger transfers to BNI City Station take place seamlessly.
Karina noted that the morning peak hours for the Commuter Line occur between 06:00 and 09:00 WIB, while evening peak density is monitored from approximately 15:30 to 20:00 WIB.
On the other hand, KAI Commuter has ensured that the closure of Karet Station does not alter the number of Commuter Line trips passing through the area. A total of 264 KRL trips per day will continue to operate.
“Therefore, there is no change in terms of the frequency of operating Commuter Line services,” she said.
Karina explained that the closure of Karet Station is part of a service improvement initiative, while also considering operational safety aspects of train travel. The integration with BNI City Station, she noted, is being carried out so that passenger facilities and access can be developed in a more integrated manner.
In the final stage of construction, the Karet Station area will function as a passenger way or an integration path leading to BNI City Station. Supporting infrastructure for passengers will also be added to enhance comfort and service.
“We are undertaking this integration as part of the service improvement efforts carried out by both KAI and KAI Commuter, while also considering the safety requirements of train operations,” Karina explained.
