Karawang - The Regent of Karawang, Aep Syaepuloh, stated that the electric rickshaws provided as assistance by President Prabowo Subianto must be used and maintained properly to earn a livelihood, and must not be sold or transferred to other parties.

“This (electric rickshaw assistance) is a mandate given by President Prabowo Subintio to help earn a living. Therefore, please look after and maintain it,” he said in Karawang, West Java, on Saturday.

He emphasised that these electric rickshaws provided by the President cannot be transferred because they are specifically intended for citizens who have been designated as beneficiaries.

“The Karawang Department of Transportation and the Karawang Social Services hold the data of the community members receiving this electric rickshaw assistance,” he noted.

Furthermore, the Karawang Department of Transportation will coordinate with sub-district governments to conduct regular checks, requiring monthly reports to prevent the electric rickshaws from changing hands.

Regarding the availability of electricity charging stations at rickshaw bases, the local government is prepared to follow up on this matter to facilitate easier battery charging for the vehicles.

“We will instruct the sub-district heads to monitor any obstacles occurring in the field,” he said.

“This electric rickshaw assistance is prioritised for elderly rickshaw drivers,” he added.

The handover of hundreds of electric rickshaws to conventional rickshaw drivers was conducted directly by the Regent alongside the National Solidarity Movement Foundation.

Prior to the distribution, the Regent personally test-drove the electric rickshaws that were to be distributed.

The test drive was conducted to ensure that the electric rickshaws could be controlled effectively, including their manoeuvrability and balance.

“I have tried this electric rickshaw, driving around the Karawang Regency Government complex at various speeds, including over uneven road surfaces. The electric rickshaw remains stable and easy to control,” he said.

The electric rickshaws are also equipped with several supporting features, such as headlights, indicators, and horns.
