Karawang Regent: Clean Water Distribution Continues to Drought-Hit Areas

Karawang Regent Aep Syaepuloh stated that the distribution of clean water to areas affected by drought during this year’s dry season is ongoing to help meet the community’s needs. “I have instructed the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to move quickly to distribute clean water to meet the needs of people in drought-affected areas,” the regent said in Karawang on Wednesday. Currently, three villages in Karawang are affected by the drought, namely Kutamekar and Mulyasejati villages in Ciampel District, and Kutalanggeng Village in Tegalwaru District. As a handling measure, the Karawang Regency Government, through the local BPBD, has collaborated with the Tirta Tarum Karawang Water Utility Company (Perumdam) to distribute clean water to the drought-affected areas. He stated that emergency measures in the form of clean water distribution to drought-stricken areas are necessary, as this year’s dry season is expected to be quite long. According to forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), this year’s dry season will occur from July to September, with the peak predicted for August 2026. This year’s dry season is generally expected to be drier and last longer than normal conditions. The regent conveyed that the Karawang Regency Government has ensured that the BPBD and Perumdam will remain on standby to minimise the impact of drought in several areas around Karawang. Regarding the long-term handling of drought that triggers clean water difficulties, he mentioned the need for an infrastructure project to connect clean water pipelines to the southern Karawang region, which is a regular drought-prone area during the dry season. ‘God willing, the pipanisation that will supply clean water will be carried out this year,’ he said.
