Karawang Regency Allocates Rp114.48 Billion to Address Uninhabitable Houses

The Karawang Regency Government, West Java, has allocated a budget of approximately Rp114.48 billion to address uninhabitable houses (RTLH) as part of an effort to improve the quality of settlements in the region.

“The programme to handle uninhabitable houses is prioritised for the poor,” said the Acting Head of the Karawang Housing and Settlement Area Office, Asep Hazar, in Karawang on Saturday.

He stated that the primary target of this programme is focused on the underprivileged category of the population, in accordance with Regent Regulation (Perbup) Number 58 of 2024 regarding the Guidelines for the Implementation of Uninhabitable House Rehabilitation.

This year, the Karawang Regency Government is undertaking the rehabilitation of 2,441 units of uninhabitable houses, with a total budget reaching Rp114,482,900,000.

According to Asep, the scale of the budget allocation for handling uninhabitable houses provides a significant direct impact on the financial and social conditions of the beneficiaries.

“When the government steps in to help transform the homes of the poor into habitable and healthy dwellings, a heavy burden is lifted from their shoulders. Budgets that were previously exhausted on repairing furniture or leaking roofs can now be redirected by residents towards child nutrition, education, and business capital,” he said.

He added that sturdy housing with good sanitation automatically creates a healthy environment for child development, helps reduce stunting rates, prevents disease risks, and allows daily family activities to become more stable and productive.
