Karawang-Produced Pickups Exported to 27 Countries, Philippines Is Main Market
PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia is expanding the export market for commercial vehicles made in the country. Currently, the Isuzu Traga produced in Karawang has been shipped to dozens of countries with volumes of thousands of units each year.
The company said the export expansion is being carried out in stages by considering the needs of each country. Vehicle specification adjustments are also an important part before entering a new market.
“Isuzu’s exports are still the Isuzu Traga. Annually it is around 6,000 to 7,000 units. It has reached more than 27 countries and we will continue to develop it. The largest is the Philippines,” said Puti Annisa Moeloek, Communication Management Department Head of PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, at the GIIAS 2026 booth on Thursday (6/8/2026).
Besides the Philippines, Isuzu has also sent the Traga to several countries in the Central American region. However, the company is still studying opportunities to open new export markets, including Papua New Guinea.
The company is not only pursuing an increase in the number of export destination countries. Isuzu also ensures that each country has needs that match the characteristics of the vehicles produced in Indonesia.
“We do not want to simply export. We will study countries that genuinely have a need for the Isuzu Traga. There will certainly be adjustments as well. In the Philippines, for example, they use left-hand drive, so adjustments need to be made according to customer needs,” she said.
Although exports continue to grow, Isuzu ensures that domestic sales remain the largest contributor to the company’s business.
“In a year, domestic is still larger,” Puti said.
