Karawang Prison Visitor Attempts to Smuggle Shabu Inside a Condom
BANDUNG — A visitor attempted to smuggle shabu into Karawang Prison in West Java on Saturday 30 May 2026. Notably, the illegal substance was concealed inside a condom. The smuggling attempt was thwarted after officers conducted a search and detected the drugs to prevent their circulation within the prison.
Karawang Police Chief AKBP Fiki N Ardiansyah, via Public Relations Officer Ipda Cep Wildan, stated that two visitors, identified as IDR (18) and NN (49), were attempting to meet inmate KHM (24). The suspects hid the shabu inside a condom to deceive officers.
“The modus operandi was quite sophisticated. The suspected narcotics were packaged carefully and brought in during visiting hours,” he said, citing Sunday 31 May 2026.
He added that prison officers suspected the visitors’ behaviour and successfully prevented the attempt. Cep Wildan said the visitors’ packages were inspected, revealing a plastic-wrapped shabu packet.
Prison authorities immediately coordinated with the Karawang Police Narcotics Unit for further investigation. Police have secured the suspects and are verifying their identities.
He stated that there would be no tolerance for narcotics trafficking, including those targeting prison environments.
“There is no tolerance for narcotics traffickers as this crime threatens the future of the nation’s youth,” he added. The Karawang Police Narcotics Unit is still testing the drug’s type and composition before legal proceedings continue.
