Karawang Prison Destroys Prohibited Items Seized During Raids
The Class IIA Karawang Prison in Karawang Regency, West Java, has destroyed a number of prohibited items seized during searches conducted in inmate blocks over the past several months.
The Head of Karawang Class IIA Prison, Ma’ruf Prasetyo Hadianto, stated in Karawang on Tuesday that the prohibited items destroyed were the results of routine raids carried out during the period of May to August 202lar.
He explained that these routine raids and searches of inmate blocks are a strategic step towards realising a ‘Zero Halinar’ area (referring to the elimination of Handphones, Illegal Levies, and Narcotics). This also serves as a direct implementation of the Action Programme by the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services of the Republic of Indonesia to maintain order within prisons.
“Therefore, the evidence being destroyed is the result of seizures from a series of strict search activities in the inmate residential blocks conducted between May and August 2024,” he said.
During this four-month period, officers secured various prohibited items, including 18 smartphones, 12 feature phones, several other electronic devices, and various improvised sharp weapons.
It was noted that the destruction process was carried out openly, firmly, and thoroughly to ensure that the seized items could no longer be misused.
All pieces of evidence were executed using multi-layered destruction methods, ranging from being smashed with hammers and burnt to being submerged in water. These steps were taken to ensure that all critical components, particularly in communication devices and electronics, are permanently damaged and rendered non-functional.
The destruction activity was led directly by the Head of Karawang Class IIA Prison and witnessed by law enforcement officials from various agencies, including personnel from the Karawang Regional Police, the 0604/Karawang Military Command, the West Java Regional Police Brimob, and the Karawang National Narcotics Agency (BNNK).
