Karawang Police Uncover 26 Drug Cases, 32 Suspects Arrested

From 26 narcotics cases successfully uncovered, 32 people have been named as suspects. This number has come under the spotlight as it indicates the high intensity of illicit drug trafficking in the Karawang Regency area. Karawang Police Chief, AKBP Fiki N. Ardiansyah, stated that the majority of the suspects were involved in the distribution of crystal methamphetamine. Of the total 32 suspects, 25 were involved in 10 crystal meth distribution cases. The remaining suspects included 2 people involved in synthetic tobacco cases and 7 others involved in cases concerning certain hard drugs spread across 6 different cases. The Police Chief explained that the detained suspects came from various backgrounds and regions, both from within Karawang Regency and from outside areas who used Karawang as a transaction location. “They are part of a fairly structured network. We are still investigating their involvement with the major dealers who are the main suppliers,” said the Police Chief on Wednesday (22/7). He added that these disclosures were the result of lengthy investigative development and intensive intelligence work. Furthermore, from these disclosures, officers seized evidence including 516.99 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 127.71 grams of synthetic tobacco, and 80,993 hard drug pills. The evidence was seized directly from the suspects and from the hiding places they used. Most of the suspects acted as couriers or retailers who received supplies from larger dealers. The suspects are charged under Article 114 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. This article regulates the criminal act of distributing Category I narcotics, carrying a penalty of life imprisonment or the death penalty, and a minimum prison sentence of 5 years.
