Karawang Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Machete Attack in Cikampek
Karawang — Karawang Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal machete attack on a young man who had confronted a group of teenagers suspected of planning a street brawl in the Cikampek area of Karawang Regency, West Java.
“The suspect was arrested on Monday (16 February) in the Gunung Jati sub-district area of Cirebon,” said Karawang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Fiki Novian Ardiansyah during a case briefing at Karawang Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
He explained that the investigation into the assault case originated from police report number LP/B/04/II/2026/SPKT/Polsek Cikampek/Polres Karawang/Polda Jawa Barat.
The assault occurred on Saturday (14 February) at approximately 02:10 Western Indonesian Time in front of a convenience store on Jalan Raya Ahmad Yani, Kampung Poponcol, Dawuan Tengah Village, Cikampek Sub-district, Karawang.
The victim was identified as Idris, alias Ode Bin Hendra, a 25-year-old casual labourer and local resident.
Karawang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Inspector Nazal Fawwaz explained that the assault began when a group of approximately 30 youths arrived at the location, allegedly intending to engage in a street brawl.
Suddenly, amidst the crowd, a verbal altercation broke out between a witness named Entis Sutisna, alias Botis, and the victim Idris.
Botis was reportedly punched once in the face by Idris. However, rather than subsiding, the situation escalated further. Botis’s associate, Raden Bram Rangga Kusumah, immediately intervened in a deeply tragic manner.
Raden Bram struck the victim with a machete-type bladed weapon known as a celurit. The slash struck the victim’s right arm near the elbow, causing an extremely severe wound that resulted in the victim’s death at the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the Karawang Police Mobile Brigade Team under the Criminal Investigation Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation.
In the early hours of Monday (16 February), Karawang Police officers secured three individuals suspected of involvement from two separate locations.
The first two, Entis Sutisna alias Botis (25) and Aditya Febriansyah alias Gembel (24), were apprehended in the Kotabaru Sub-district area of Karawang. The third individual, Raden Bram Rangga Kusumah (26), was arrested in Mayung Village, Gunung Jati Sub-district, Cirebon Regency, West Java.
During the arrests, officers also seized evidence including a celurit or klewang-type bladed weapon measuring approximately 150 centimetres, which is strongly suspected to have been used to attack the victim.
Following intensive questioning of witnesses and the three detained individuals, investigators ultimately assigned differing legal statuses to each.
“Based on the results of the examination and taking into account the available evidence, the individual strongly suspected of committing the assault that caused the victim’s death is Raden Bram Rangga Kusumah. We have processed him in accordance with applicable law,” the Police Chief affirmed.
Meanwhile, the other two individuals detained — Entis Sutisna alias Botis and Aditya Febriansyah alias Gembel — were classified solely as witnesses. In accordance with standard procedure, after undergoing questioning for a period of 24 hours, both were returned to their families in good health.
To answer for his actions, suspect Raden Bram Rangga Kusumah is now being held at Karawang Police Headquarters. He has been charged under Article 466(3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the New Criminal Code (KUHP Baru).
The article specifically governs the criminal offence of assault resulting in death. If found guilty, the suspect faces a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment.
