The Karawang Regency Government has sealed Helen’s Night Mart, the location of a gay party in Karawang, West Java. The nightlife venue did not possess a licence to sell alcoholic beverages. This came to light after the Karawang Regency Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) confirmed the matter with the management of Helen’s Night Mart Karawang. The nightlife venue’s management subsequently tendered an apology. “We have confirmed it, the management has admitted it, and the management has even conveyed an apology,” said Karawang Regency Secretary Asep Aang Rahmatullah. Aang emphasised that the temporary closure has a strong legal basis, namely Regional Regulation Number 12 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Public Peace, Security, Order, and Community Protection. “The regional regulation contains a prohibited clause in Article 17 paragraph 2, banning immoral acts in public places, and it is clear that Helen’s Night Mart has violated this. Additionally, an administrative check found incomplete permits; they do not yet have a Building Approval (PBG), a Function Worthy Certificate (SLF), or a permit to sell alcoholic beverages,” he stated. Aang said his party is highly focused on the long-term impacts, especially concerning public health risks such as sexually transmitted diseases.
