Karawang Land Office Fire Still Burning After More Than 10 Hours
The fire at the Karawang office of the National Land Agency (BPN) has not been completely extinguished and firefighters are still carrying out cooling operations. Karawang Fire and Rescue Service personnel are continuing to tackle remaining flames at the site.
“Cooling operations are still under way. There are still several hotspots, but they are relatively small, according to preliminary information,” a Karawang Fire Service call-centre officer said when contacted on Thursday (15 October 2026).
The first report of the fire came at around 10.50pm on Wednesday (14 October). By Thursday morning, the fire was still being dealt with. Its cause has not yet been established.
“Our focus is still on extinguishing the fire, and the regent has also inspected the site,” the officer said.
The West Java Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Karawang Regency said eight fire engines had been deployed. Firefighters from the KIIC industrial estate and the Karawang Military District Command also assisted.
“Eight fire engines have been deployed to put out the fire,” said Rudi Suwardi, commander of the Karawang Regency BPBD Fire Service’s Third Platoon, as quoted by Antara.
According to information from the scene, most of the BPN office building was gutted. Some assets and important documents inside the office were also destroyed.
The office is located beside the main road on Jalan Ahmad Yani, and the incident temporarily disrupted traffic. Passers-by gathered at the scene to watch and record what was happening.
Rudi said the source and point of origin of the fire could not yet be confirmed, as further examination was needed.
“The cause is not yet known for certain; this requires further investigation,” he said.
By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already grown large, prompting an intensive response. Officials confirmed there were no casualties, as the office was empty when the fire broke out.
