Karawang Land Office Fire: Eight Fire Engines Deployed as Blaze Rages for 10 Hours
The office building of the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) in Karawang, West Java, caught fire on Wednesday night (14 October 2026). The blaze consumed almost 90 per cent of the building.
The Karawang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency deployed eight fire engines to tackle the fire at the Karawang BPN office. The blaze was still raging after 10 hours, despite the deployment of the fire engines.
“Eight vehicles have been deployed to extinguish the fire,” said Rudi Suwardi, commander of Fire and Rescue Platoon 3 at the Karawang Regency agency, in Karawang on Thursday (15 October 2026).
Fire engines from the KIIC industrial estate and the Karawang Military District Command also assisted with firefighting. Crews began work at around 10pm on Wednesday and continued until Thursday morning.
According to information from the scene, most of the Karawang BPN office was gutted. A number of assets and documents inside the building were also destroyed.
The office is located beside the road, opposite Ahmad Yani Road, and the fire temporarily disrupted traffic. Many passers-by gathered at the scene to watch and record the incident.
Rudi said he could not yet confirm the cause of the fire or where it had started, as the matter was still being examined.
“The cause has not been established; further investigation is needed,” he said.
When firefighters arrived, the flames had already grown considerably, prompting an intensive response. Officials confirmed there were no casualties, as the office was empty at the time.
