Karawang Land Office Catches Fire; BPN Says Restoring Services Is a Priority
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Deputy Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Ossy Dermawan has pledged to protect the public’s land rights and restore services at the Karawang Regency Land Office in West Java as quickly as possible following a fire.
“Our first priority is the safety of all employees and members of the public, followed by securing assets and land documents that can still be saved,” Deputy Minister Ossy said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
Ossy visited the Karawang Land Office in the early hours of Thursday (15 October) to ensure the fire response was proceeding properly. The fire broke out at about 11.10 pm on Wednesday (14 October). The blaze was reported to have started on the building’s second floor; its cause is not yet known and is subject to a police investigation.
Ossy praised the local government, firefighters, the Karawang Police, the military district command and other parties, as well as members of the public, for helping to deal with the fire.
On the continuity of land services, Ossy said the Ministry of ATR/BPN was committed to protecting the public’s land rights and restoring services in Karawang as soon as possible.
The ministry will continue coordinating with the West Java BPN Regional Office, the Karawang Regency Land Office, the police and other relevant agencies to follow up on the incident.
The public has been urged to remain calm and follow information from the ministry’s official channels. Updates on the fire response and land services will be issued through those channels once confirmed information is available.
