Karawang Hajj Pilgrim Dies in Mecca
A Hajj pilgrim from Karawang Regency, West Java, has reportedly died while performing pilgrimage duties in Mecca, suspected to be due to a heart attack. Rozak, head of the Karawang Hajj and Umrah Ministry, stated when contacted in Karawang on Monday that the deceased Hajj pilgrim was named Prima R Nugraha. The victim, a resident of Cicinde III Hamlet, Cicinde Utara Village, Banyusari District, Karawang, was part of Karawang’s Kloter 4 and departed for the Holy Land on Saturday night (23 May). Rozak said that, according to information from Hajj officials in Mecca, the victim had received treatment at a hospital emergency department near the Grand Mosque before passing away. “According to medical reports, the deceased suffered a heart attack and died at the hospital’s emergency department near the Grand Mosque on Saturday at 11:30 PM local time,” he said. Rozak expressed his condolences over Prima R Nugraha’s death and wished the family strength during this difficult time. Meanwhile, this Hajj season, 1,783 Hajj applicants from Karawang have been sent to Mecca. The Hajj pilgrims from Karawang are divided into five kloters: Kloter 4 departed from the Karawang Islamic Center complex to the Bekasi dormitory on Friday, 24 April 2026; Kloter 9 on Friday, 1 May 2026; Kloter 16 on Sunday, 10 May 2026; Kloter 20 on Friday, 15 May 2026; and Kloter 27 on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
