Karawaci Police Neutralise Motorcycle Thief Who Resisted Arrest
Officers from the Karawaci Police Station have neutralised one of two motorcycle theft suspects, identified by the initials AH (24), after he attempted to resist arrest. His accomplice, DJ (25), was apprehended by officers without resistance.
The Chief of Karawaci Police, Commissioner Anggoro Winardi, explained that the arrest followed community reports regarding a motorcycle theft at a minimarket in the Taman Pabuaran area, Jalan Raya Merdeka, Karawaci, Tangerang City.
Based on investigations involving CCTV footage and witness statements, officers tracked the suspects as they fled towards the Cikupa area in Tangerang Regency.
“Officers immediately pursued them to the suspects’ rented house in the Jungle Boulevard area, Cibadak, Cikupa,” said Anggoro on Friday (11/9).
During the arrest process, the suspect AH attempted to flee and resisted the officers, forcing the police to take decisive and measured action. Meanwhile, the suspect DJ surrendered immediately. Both individuals are currently being held at the Karawaci Police Station for further interrogation.
From preliminary examinations, the suspects admitted to having carried out similar thefts with another accomplice, identified as TI, who is currently on the wanted list (DPO). The stolen motorcycles are typically sold to the Lampung region for prices ranging from Rp3 million to Rp4 million per unit.
“We are continuing to develop this case to capture other perpetrators and the fences involved in the stolen goods,” added Anggoro.
For their actions, the suspects face charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with aggravating circumstances, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
Separately, the Chief of Tangerang City Metro Police, Commissioner Herbin Sianipar, urged the public to increase vigilance when parking vehicles. He suggested the use of double security locks and requested that citizens report any suspicious activity immediately.
“Always be vigilant and use additional security locks. Report immediately to the authorities via the 110 call centre or visit the nearest police station if you encounter anything suspicious,” concluded Herbin.
