A total of 143 disasters struck the Karangasem district in Bali over the past two months from January to February 2026. The total losses resulting from these disasters are estimated to have reached Rp 3.3 billion.

Ida Bagus Ketut Arimbawa, head of the Karangasem Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), revealed that hundreds of disasters were spread across all subdistricts in Karangasem. Karangasem subdistrict recorded the highest number of disasters with a total of 42 incidents, followed by Bebandem and Manggis subdistricts, each with 28 incidents.

“For other subdistricts, the numbers are not as significant, averaging 8–14 incidents over the past two months,” Arimbawa said on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

The hundreds of incidents were predominantly characterised by fallen trees damaging road access, houses, shrines, and other public facilities. There were also landslides and flooding in several areas.

“Several of the disasters that occurred did not result in any loss of life. However, losses are estimated to have reached Rp 3.3 billion,” Arimbawa said.

Arimbawa noted that the number of 143 disasters over two months was relatively high. According to him, the hundreds of disasters were caused by high rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

During the rainy season, he said, Karangasem district still faces the potential for natural disasters such as fallen trees, landslides, and flooding. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious when carrying out activities both indoors and outdoors.

“We also urge the public not to take shelter under large trees during heavy rainfall,” Arimbawa said.

Arimbawa invited residents to report any disasters they become aware of in their areas. Reports can be submitted to the Karangasem BPBD through telephone number (0363) 22173 or WhatsApp 081138205087.
