Karangasem Plans IDR 100 Billion Loan to Accelerate Infrastructure Development
The Karangasem Regency Government is maturing plans for a regional loan of IDR 100 billion from PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI), targeted for submission in 2027. The funds are projected to accelerate priority infrastructure development.
Head of the Karangasem Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), I Gusti Bagus Widiantara, stated that the IDR 100 billion loan resulted from discussions with the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD), taking into account the region’s fiscal capacity.
“This is planned as a loan for 2027, which is why discussions have already begun. We are currently planning IDR 100 billion in line with the region’s capacity,” said Widiantara on Monday (10/8/2026).
Of the total planned loan of IDR 100 billion, approximately IDR 20 billion will be allocated for the construction of a Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM). The issue of clean water remains a pressing matter that needs immediate attention so that all residents of Karangasem can eventually access clean water equitably.
“We cannot deny that water remains a major problem, so SPAM infrastructure needs to be accelerated so that the benefits can be felt immediately by the entire community,” Widiantara stated.
Furthermore, around IDR 30 billion is planned for improving facilities and infrastructure at the Karangasem Regional General Hospital (RSUD), and the remaining IDR 50 billion will be focused on road construction and repairs across eight sub-districts. The repairs will be prioritised for road sections that are severely damaged and require immediate handling.
“Aside from safety concerns, we also assess that road conditions directly affect the community’s economic activities. Therefore, infrastructure repair will be one of our main focuses going forward,” said Widiantara.
The loan plan will subsequently be discussed with the Karangasem Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). If necessary, the Karangasem Regency Government is prepared to prepare a regulation in the form of a Regional Regulation (Perda) as the legal basis for the loan submission.
“If it is later recommended to create a Perda, we will certainly discuss it together. Because this must be jointly overseen, given the limited time,” said Widiantara.
