Karang Intan Narcotics Penitentiary Provides Bachelor's Degree Education for Inmates
Karang Intan Narcotics Penitentiary Class IIA has introduced a rehabilitation facility offering bachelor’s degree (S1) lectures for prisoners and inmates (WBP).
Yugo Indra Wicaksi, Head of Karang Intan Narcotics Penitentiary, stated that the programme is crucial for enhancing inmates’ knowledge and personal development. He hopes that the lectures will help prisoners improve themselves.
“We want to ensure that inmates do not merely serve their sentences, but also have the opportunity to reform themselves and improve their quality of life. Through this lecture programme, they can acquire knowledge, build character, and prepare for a better future after their release,” Yugo stated, as reported by detikcom from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights website on Monday (16 March 2026).
On Saturday (14 March), Ida Komalasari, a lecturer, delivered a lesson to approximately 20 inmates on character education. The material emphasised the importance of integrity, responsibility, discipline, and the ability to build a future upon release and return to society. Ida encouraged the inmate-students to view this material as essential preparation for reintegrating into the community.
“I see extraordinary enthusiasm from the students here. Character education is not merely about theory, but about how a person can understand themselves, improve their attitudes, and cultivate positive values in life,” she said.
“I hope the knowledge they acquire becomes the foundation for living a more meaningful life,” she added.
Fahmi, an inmate, expressed gratitude for the educational facility. He stated that the programme made him feel valued and gave him hope for the future.
“We are very grateful for the opportunity to study here. This activity makes us feel valued and gives us hope for the future. The knowledge we gain serves as motivation to become better people when we return to society,” he said.
