Kampung Rambutan Terminal Swamped with Homebound Travellers a Week Before Eid

A surge of intercity bus passengers has begun filling the departure area at Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta, Saturday, 14 March 2026. The crowds have intensified as homebound travellers arrive carrying luggage, suitcases, and boxes in preparation for returning to their hometowns to celebrate Eid with family.

With the steady arrival of passengers from various provinces, the atmosphere at Kampung Rambutan Terminal has become increasingly busy, reflecting the seasonal rush as travellers prepare to depart for their hometowns ahead of the Eid festivities.

Bus drivers are undergoing health screenings conducted by health officials from Cipayung Subdistrict and the East Jakarta District Health Office before resuming their duties.

The terminal management, in collaboration with the National Zakat Collection Agency and Jakarta’s Zakat, Infaq and Sedekah Board (Baznas-Bazis DKI Jakarta), has established free massage services for homebound travellers and bus drivers, employing visually impaired individuals as therapists to provide economic empowerment.

Intercity coach fares at Kampung Rambutan Terminal have increased, with average ticket prices rising approximately 20 per cent compared to regular days. One prospective passenger, Dipta, purchasing a ticket on the Sinar Dempo bus service to Palembang, noted that the fare had increased to Rp810,000 from the previous price of Rp550,000. “I bought the ticket a week before departure and the price had already risen to Rp810,000 from the previous Rp550,000,” he told CNBC Indonesia.

The Ministry of Transport has recorded that the potential movement of homebound travellers during the 2026 Eid transport season is estimated at approximately 143.91 million people, equivalent to 50.60 per cent of Indonesia’s total population.
