Kampung Kramat Bridge Settles: Steel Plates Installed to Allow Motorcycles to Pass
JAKARTA — The Kampung Kramat Bridge in Setu, Cipayung, East Jakarta has subsided and steel plates have been installed as of Monday, 2 March 2026.
The District Head of Cipayung, Diman, stated that the steel plate installation allows motorcycle riders to cross the bridge connecting East Jakarta and Bekasi city. “After speaking with the Road Infrastructure Head, the solution is that the Kampung Kramat Bridge will only be used by two-wheeled vehicles. The gaps will be fitted with steel plates so that residents coming from Bekasi can pass, but only via the motorcycle route,” Diman said when met on Monday, 2 March 2026.
“The District Road Infrastructure office has confirmed they will proceed immediately. Hopefully by this afternoon it will be completed and in good order,” he added.
The steel plate installation has been undertaken because comprehensive repairs can only be carried out after the Public Works Ministry repairs the eroded Sunter Canal embankment beneath the bridge. “We have sent letters through our District Road Infrastructure office to our colleagues at Public Works. We have written to them, but I have not yet received further information on whether they will implement it promptly or not,” Diman explained.
The bridge, which serves as a connector between East Jakarta and Bekasi city, is now impassable by vehicles, forcing traffic to be diverted to alternative routes.
The bridge had previously subsided on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 and was repaired temporarily. However, damage recurred just days after the repairs were completed.
The holes in the bridge structure are sufficiently deep that all types of vehicles cannot pass. Travellers from East Jakarta heading to Bekasi have been forced to find alternative routes.
