Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadikusumo stated that Danantara Indonesia’s Chief Executive Officer Rosan Roeslani is targeting the purchase of land 400 metres from Masjidil Haram. “This month, Mr Rosan from Danantara is bidding against dozens of competitors to secure the land 400 metres from Masjidil Haram,” Hashim said at the Economic Briefing 2026 event held in Jakarta on Thursday. The government’s decision to target this land, located 400 metres from Masjidil Haram, takes into account the advanced age of Hajj pilgrims, particularly those around 60-70 years old. “Many Indonesian pilgrims to the Holy Land are elderly, aged 60-70 years. They have to walk 9-10 km,” Hashim said. Hashim views this step as a breakthrough to facilitate Indonesian Muslims in performing Hajj. “I hear they plan to build about 15 towers at the first site. There will be other places, like Padang rice restaurants or Acehnese restaurants. The elderly can rest there,” Hashim said. According to him, this achievement can be realised because President Prabowo Subianto secured a commitment from the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). Previously reported, the Indonesian Government through Danantara has secured a total land area of 45 hectares for Kampung Haji Indonesia. The development of the Kampung Haji project in Mecca is expected to strengthen the global halal ecosystem and increase the economic multiplier effect for Indonesia.
