Kampung Bandan Station Operations Normalise After Land Fire

Train services at Kampung Bandan Station in North Jakarta have returned to normal after a land fire temporarily disrupted the Commuter Line schedule on Monday. The blaze, which consumed 15,000 square metres of dry scrubland owned by railway operator PT KAI, is strongly suspected to have been triggered by a discarded cigarette butt.

Budi Haryono, Head of the North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Sub-department, confirmed that the initial report was received at 2:38 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The fire spread rapidly through the parched vegetation, with thick smoke and the proximity of the flames to the tracks forcing the temporary suspension of services between Tanjung Priok and Jakarta Kota for passenger safety.

A total of 40 personnel were deployed to battle the blaze, which was fully extinguished by 5:44 p.m. KAI Commuter has since confirmed that operations have returned to normal. Officials have urged the public to refrain from discarding cigarette butts or burning waste carelessly, particularly in open areas with dry vegetation, to prevent similar incidents from disrupting vital public infrastructure.
