KAMMI rejects planned protest on 27 August 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Muslim Students Action Union (KAMMI) has rejected a planned demonstration by the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the DPR/MPR building on 27 August 2026, citing the need to maintain public order and national unity.

“We convey this rejection in order to safeguard public order, the sovereignty of state symbols, and the integrity of national unity, which we cannot compromise on,” said KAMMI Central Board Chairman Muhammad Amri Akbar in Jakarta on Friday.

Previously, AMPB representatives had issued threats to take members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) hostage if their demands for the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the death penalty for corruptors continued to be ignored.

Amri said KAMMI rejects all forms of manoeuvres that claim to represent the people’s aspirations but have the potential to lead to provocation, coercive actions, and threats against state symbols and public officials.

“Statements indicating an intention to take hostage or threaten members of the DPR RI constitute a form of escalation that cannot be justified in a civilised democracy,” he said.

Furthermore, students as agents of change have a moral responsibility to bridge the people’s aspirations with state administrators in an elegant manner, rather than inflaming the situation with confrontational narratives.

KAMMI, Amri continued, encourages all elements of civil society to channel their demands, including the eradication of corruption, the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and equitable law enforcement, through official forums, legislative hearings, and available public participation mechanisms.

“This is a manifestation of democratic maturity. Let us oversee the anti-corruption agenda through constitutional, peaceful, and dignified means, so that the people’s voice is heard without having to sacrifice the integrity and sovereignty of the nation,” he said.
