KAMMI Rejects 27 August Protest Plan: For the Sake of Public Order

The Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAMMI) has declared its rejection of calls for a planned demonstration on 27 August. The statement responds to a protest planned by the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB) at the DPR RI building.

“We firmly declare our rejection of the planned demonstration to be held at the DPR RI building on 27 August 2026 by a group calling itself the Pati United Community Alliance or AMPB,” said KAMMI Central Board Chairman Amri Akbar during a press conference at a café in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Friday (21/8/2026).

Amri stated he disagreed with statements from AMPB that could potentially trigger unforeseen consequences. He urged everyone to maintain public order.

“Particularly following statements from one of AMPB’s coordinators in the public sphere indicating the potential for actions outside the legal corridor. We convey this statement for the sake of maintaining public order, the sovereignty of state symbols, and the integrity of national unity, which we cannot and will never compromise,” he said.

KAMMI emphasised its rejection of provocations that could cause national division. The organisation said it wishes to safeguard the dignity of democracy, state sovereignty and national unity.

“First, we reject attempts at provocation that could potentially divide the unity and integrity of the nation,” he said.

Furthermore, KAMMI firmly rejected any manoeuvres carried out in the name of the people’s aspirations but potentially leading to provocation, coercive actions or threats against state symbols. The organisation also stated that remarks indicating an intention to hold hostage or threaten the DPR RI legislature constitute an unjustifiable escalation within a civilised democracy.

“Criticism and aspirations are the right of every citizen. But those rights must not be hijacked by confrontational narratives that could potentially stir unrest, damage state facilities, and tear apart the sense of unity that this nation has painstakingly nurtured,” he said.

“Especially in the situation and conditions we are all aware of, our brothers and sisters in various regions of Indonesia — in NTT are being struck by an earthquake disaster, in Kalimantan are being hit by forest and land fires — so our concentration as children of the nation should be jointly focused on humanitarian missions,” he added.
