KAMMI Maluku Rejects Muktamar Agenda in Ambon, Here's Why

The Secretary General of the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAMMI) for the Maluku region, Morsal J Samual, has asserted that KAMMI Maluku strongly rejects any attempt to hold a Muktamar that lacks constitutional legitimacy and contravenes the organisation’s mechanisms. Morsal stressed that KAMMI must not be run based on the interests of a particular group that ignores the Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART). Every national agenda must obtain clear constitutional legitimacy. Without such a basis, activities carried out in the organisation’s name are nothing more than an agenda forced outside the corridor of the rules. “The organisation’s constitution is not an accessory that can be worn and removed according to one’s interests. The constitution is the foundation of the organisation. Anyone who tries to ignore it is actually damaging the organisation’s dignity and authority. Therefore, we will take firm action,” Morsal said in a written statement on Thursday, 18 June 2026. He emphasised that the attempt to force the implementation of a Muktamar with unclear legality constitutes a bad precedent for the life of the organisation. If such practices are allowed, then any group could easily claim legitimacy without respecting the rules that form the basis of the organisation’s establishment. “We will not stand idly by watching the organisation’s constitution be trampled upon. KAMMI Maluku will safeguard the enforcement of the organisation’s rules and ensure that no party arbitrarily uses the great name of KAMMI for interests that lack a legitimate basis,” he continued. KAMMI Maluku also urged the Maluku Provincial Government, the Ambon City Government, security forces, and all stakeholders not to provide facilities or support for the illegal agenda. Furthermore, KAMMI Maluku confirmed it will stage a rejection action, formally convey its objections to the authorities, and pursue all available organisational and legal steps to prevent the creation of a precedent that could damage the organisation’s governance. “Ambon must not be turned into a stage for an agenda whose legitimacy and constitutionality are illegal. Maluku is a region that upholds law and order. Therefore, every party must respect the applicable organisational rules,” he stated.
