Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra’s Deputy Governor Surya has invited the Family of Alumni of the Indonesian Muslim Student Action Union (KAKAMMI) to become the vanguard in preventing drug trafficking in the province.

“KAKAMMI must become a pioneering force in strengthening the younger generation against drug abuse,” Surya stated after attending the inauguration of the KAKAMMI North Sumatra board for 2025–2030 at the North Sumatra Governor’s Office on Sunday.

The Deputy Governor emphasised that the drug issue is not merely a legal matter but also concerns moral, social, and humanitarian aspects.

Therefore, he continued, a comprehensive approach is needed through education, mentoring, and sustainable social movements in North Sumatra.

Data from the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) in 2025 reveals that 1.6 tonnes of methamphetamine were seized in North Sumatra, an increase of around 34 percent from the previous year’s 1.2 tonnes.

“Through education, mentoring, and social movements, we must work together to create a healthy, strong, and drug-free environment,” Surya explained.

The Deputy Governor also highlighted the increasingly complex challenges of the digital era, from the flood of information to identity crises threatening the younger generation.

In this context, Surya urged KAKAMMI to step up as pioneers in building the character of an integrity-driven generation in North Sumatra.

He also advised the newly inaugurated KAKAMMI North Sumatra board to carry out their mandate with full responsibility, providing space for creativity, collaboration, and solutions to various societal issues in North Sumatra.

“We also invite the KAMMI Alumni Family to strengthen synergy with the regional government to build a more advanced, superior, and competitive North Sumatra,” Surya said.

Deputy Chairman of the National KAKAMMI Board Deni Priyanto called on all organisational elements to collaborate in facing national challenges.

“We heard what Brother Surya (North Sumatra Deputy Governor) said earlier; we must become pioneers. Why? Because we are mosque activists. Let’s collaborate to face future challenges,” Deni stated.

KAKAMMI North Sumatra Chairman Abdul Rahim Siregar appreciated the North Sumatra Provincial Government’s various regional development efforts, including drug eradication, disaster management, and sustainable development.
