Kalla to meet Golkar leaders

JAYAPURA, Papua: Vice President Jusuf Kalla is scheduled to meet thousands of Golkar Party leaders in Jayapura on Saturday.

To secure the meeting, some 1,700 police and Army personnel will be deployed said chief of Jayapura military resort Col. Asis Wanto on Thursday.

Kalla's visit is expected to boost the chances of Jayapura mayor and deputy mayor candidates nominated by Golkar, Kambu and Sudjarwo, in the June 28 election.

Kambu has put up posters in the streets that show him together with Kalla.

"This is the right moment for Kambu to garner more support from Golkar members," said a member of Kambu's campaign team. -- JP
