Kalla calendars, food distributed

KENDARI, Central Sulawesi: A group of people distributed basic commodity packages and calendars bearing the photo of Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Jusuf Kalla to residents of Baruga district, in the Southeast Sulawesi capital of Kendari on Saturday. This was apparently an attempt to seek support for Kalla's presidential candidacy.

Rahmatia, 28, a resident who received a basic commodity package, was happy with the package. She said she would support Golkar Party, which Kalla belongs to, in the upcoming general election.

"I heard that the food package was from the Golkar Party. As I was offered it, I just accepted it," she said smiling.

Bahar, a member of the group distributing the food, said they were paid by a man identified as Boy to distribute the food to the needy in the district.

The local office of the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) was still investigating the food aid distribution. --JP
