Makassar (ANTARA) - Kalla is once again strengthening the economic vitality in Makassar City through the development of the mixed-use area at Mal Ratu Indah (MaRI), known as MaRI Extension, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony at the project site of the former Hotel Sahid, Makassar, on Tuesday.

This milestone signifies the start of phase 1 of the MaRI development, which will introduce an integration of commercial and residential functions in a strategic location in the heart of Makassar City.

“This development is an extraordinary step for us, as well as a continuation of Mal Ratu Indah, which has now matured significantly. We want to ensure that MaRI continues to grow, adapt, and remain relevant as the primary destination for the community,” said Executive Officer of KALLA, Solihin Jusuf Kalla.

The MaRI mixed-use area development is designed in two phases. In the first phase, construction is focused on the existing parking area, encompassing the expansion of the parking building area.

Meanwhile, in the second phase, development will focus on expanding the mall area with a size designed similar to the existing mall, presenting a more modern and integrated retail and lifestyle concept.

The apartment development will consist of 10 floors of residential units with 230 housing units and 9 floors of dedicated parking for residents.

“This development is a strategic step for the company in strengthening its property portfolio,” he said.

The Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, expressed support for the area development, which is expected to make a significant contribution to the city’s economic growth.

“This construction will certainly have a positive impact, particularly in absorbing labour. We hope to see an increase in the number of workers absorbed from the presence of the Mal Ratu Indah development,” he explained.

Currently, said Munafri, Makassar is becoming an increasingly dynamic city with many workers coming from outside the region.

“We hope that the MaRI expansion can also meet the lifestyle and shopping needs of the community,” Munafri added.

The development project is the realisation of a long-term strategic plan that has been comprehensively prepared over the past approximately two years, encompassing the architectural design process, technical studies, to the demolition of the former Hotel Sahid as part of the area arrangement.

Overall, the MaRI mixed-use area development project is targeted for completion in 2028. The development is expected to become an important part of regional growth while strengthening Makassar’s position as a centre of economic activity in eastern Indonesia.
