Kalista optimistic about faster adoption of electric logistics vehicles
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The trend of electric vehicles continues to develop in the country, including in the logistics vehicle sector.
Albert Aulia Ilyas, Chief Executive Officer of Kalista Group, said that the logistics sector is among the fastest to adopt EVs, particularly in the last mile and middle mile segments.
Moreover, he said that vehicle models such as blind vans and electric mini vans have already been used by various companies since 2021–2022.
‘Five years ago people were still worried because charging stations were few and queues. Now in major cities SPKLU are much more numerous, so the operation of electric vehicles is becoming more feasible,’ he said at a media forum on Wednesday (21 May 2026).
For example, in Jabodetabek and parts of Java where charging infrastructure has now become more adequate for the operation of light commercial vehicles.
Nevertheless, Kalista acknowledges there are still major challenges for heavy commercial vehicles such as trailers and intercity buses.
‘Charging infrastructure specifically for heavy-duty vehicles is still inadequate, especially at tolled rest areas. Because, with such heavy weight, heavy-duty trucks cannot approach the public charging infrastructure that is designed more for passenger cars,’ he said.
