Jakarta — With increasing momentum behind electric vehicle acceleration in Indonesia, various challenges remain significant obstacles to technology adoption.

Kalista, an Indonesian transportation and technology company focused on building a commercial electric vehicle ecosystem, is among those working to address these barriers. The company offers business models such as Fleet-as-a-Service (FaaS) or rental arrangements to ease the burden on operators.

Nevertheless, Albert Aulia Ilyas, Chief Executive Officer of Kalista Group, states that six issues continue to present challenges for Kalista, particularly regarding commercial vehicles.

Aulia explained that the company has identified these six challenges to provide end-to-end solutions that can be overcome to accelerate commercial vehicle electrification transitions.

Looking back four years, commercial electric vehicle penetration stood at less than 1 per cent. However, this year those six challenges are beginning to find solutions.

For instance, emerging new technologies, the availability of products with various specifications, and increasingly competitive pricing are facilitating this shift.

“As business players, this may be the moment for us to consider electric vehicles as one option for creating sustainable business,” Aulia said. “In the past it was still considered unproven and more expensive. Now it is beginning to change.”
