Jakarta (ANTARA) - The construction project for a funeral home and crematorium in Utan Jati, Kalideres, West Jakarta, which has been opposed by residents, has been found to lack the necessary Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) permit.

The completion of the environmental permit, along with other required permits, was agreed upon by the developer, Yayasan Rumah Swarga Abadi, on January 27, 2026, but it has yet to be obtained.

The Mayor of West Jakarta, Iin Mutmainnah, stated that the completion of the environmental permit and other necessary permits should have been processed immediately after the Building Permit (PBG) was issued.

“We are committed to not starting any construction activities at the project site before the entire environmental permitting process is completed and the environmental permit is officially issued by the relevant authority,” she said.

Therefore, Iin added, the project has been temporarily suspended.

Previously, Iin affirmed that the City Government does not take sides in the conflict regarding the residents’ rejection of the construction of the funeral home and crematorium near their residential area.

During the mediation, Iin gave the residents of Kalideres, the developer from Yayasan Rumah Swarga Abadi, the relevant Unit Kerja Perangkat Daerah (UKPD), and the Kalideres sub-district the opportunity to provide statements.

Iin emphasized that the mediation involving all parties is aimed at finding a common ground for the issue.

“This coordination meeting with all the relevant parties that we have invited shows that the government is present. This means that we are conducting intensive and effective coordination efforts, with the aim of ensuring that everything runs smoothly,” she said.

The representative of the Citra 2 community, Budiman Tandiono, stated that the residents were never informed about the construction of the funeral home and crematorium in front of their housing complex.

According to him, the residents only found out about the construction after heavy equipment arrived at the location in the middle of this month.

“We never received any socialization or official notification. Suddenly, heavy equipment arrived and construction began,” he said.

According to Budiman, the project permit was allegedly issued on February 6, 2026, but to date, there is no information board or Building Permit (IMB) sign at the location.
