Kali Mampang embankment repair targeted for completion in early September

The repair of the Kali Mampang embankment on the Jalan Poncol Jaya segment, Kuningan Barat Urban Village, Mampang Prapatan District, South Jakarta, is targeted for completion in early September 2026.

“We are carrying out this embankment repair because, based on monitoring results from our team in the field, several sections are damaged and feared to collapse during the upcoming rainy season,” said Junjung Paulus, Head of the Maintenance Section at the South Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-department, in Jakarta on Friday.

Junjung said the repair of the flood control infrastructure is being undertaken as an anticipatory measure ahead of the rainy season, as well as to prevent inundation.

He explained that the work, which began on 17 July 2026, includes repairing the embankment with a height of 310 centimetres along a length of 300 metres.

The work is being carried out manually, involving six personnel from the Blue Troops.

“We are accelerating this work, and hopefully it will be completed early next month before the rainy season arrives,” he said.

According to him, the embankment repair is expected to minimise the risk of damage to the riverbank due to erosion or increased water flow during the rainy season.

“We are committed to continuing to provide reliable water resources infrastructure to support the comfort and safety of the public in all weather conditions,” he said.

Meanwhile, a local resident, Ahmad Ansori, expressed appreciation for the embankment repair carried out by the South Jakarta SDA Sub-department.

He said anticipatory measures need to be taken early to address the potential increase in water flow during the rainy season.

“Looking at it, the embankment here was previously in poor condition and quite worrying. Through this repair, we certainly hope its function will be better and more optimal,” he said.
