Kakorlantas Polri Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho attended the National Conference III of the Indonesian Trucking Entrepreneurs Association (Aptrindo) on Wednesday, 20 May. In his remarks, Kakorlantas highlighted several strategic issues related to road safety and the national logistics sector. He said that his presence represented the Chief of Police to discuss various transport safety challenges in Indonesia. “I am Kakorlantas Polri, representing the Chief of Police; there are several matters we need to convey related to strategic safety issues,” Agus said. There are five main pillars central to realising road safety, including in the logistics and goods transport sector. “There are five pillars I must remind you of in relation to safety, including whether they relate to logistics safety and so on,” Agus added. The first pillar is road safety management. He said the state must be present through cross-ministerial and agency collaboration to guarantee road safety and order. “Firstly, road safety management, the state’s collaboration must be present to ensure that delivering traffic that is safe, orderly, and smooth is guaranteed by the state,” he explained. He also noted the issue of over-dimension and overload vehicles, which the government is currently focusing on. He emphasised that the government already has a blueprint towards the target of zero over-dimension and overload by 2027. “Over-dimension and overload, the country has drawn up a blueprint from the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Infrastructure; by 2027 there must be zero over-dimension and overload,” Agus asserted. The second pillar relates to safe roads. He said that the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure must prioritise safety of road users. “The second pillar is safe roads, from the Ministry of Public Works; of course the state must be present to ensure that safety is the primary consideration,” he said. Meanwhile, on the third pillar, Agus highlighted the importance of vehicles meeting safety standards. He also distinguished between overload violations and criminal over-dimension offences. “The third pillar is safe vehicles; whether they are safe, how about those over-dimension and those overload. The most important substance is that when we talk about over-dimension it is a traffic crime, when we talk about overload it is a traffic violation,” he explained.
