Kak Seto Proposes Child Protection Section at Neighbourhood Level in Jakarta

Child protection advocate Seto Mulyadi, widely known as Kak Seto, has proposed the establishment of a Child Protection Section at the neighbourhood (RT) level, abbreviated as SPARTA, to be implemented across all RTs in Jakarta. The Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Institute (LPAI) noted that South Tangerang previously received a MURI record as the first city to fulfil the RT scope with a Child Protection Section, and he hopes Jakarta can follow suit. “One of the things we want to propose, because community empowerment is crucial, is something we have been pioneering since 2011 through LPAI, namely SPARTA, a Child Protection Section at the neighbourhood level,” Seto explained at City Hall on Monday. He added that besides South Tangerang, other areas such as Bekasi, North Bengkulu, and Belitung have also implemented SPARTA within their RTs. “Starting from the unit closest to the family, the neighbourhood, which is very concerned about child protection and immediately prevents various forms of violence against children. So hopefully, we also propose that DKI becomes the first province where all RTs in every city are equipped with SPARTA,” Seto elaborated. Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the provincial government would promptly review the proposal. “Kak Seto’s proposal regarding SPARTA, we will study it, we will delve into it,” said Pramono. He also noted that Jakarta has been recognised as a child-friendly province since 2022 and stressed that this achievement must be maintained.
