KAI's Statement Following Collision of Two Trains in Bekasi
A long-distance train (KA) collided with a KAI Commuter Line (KRL) train at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City this evening. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has issued an apology and assured that efforts are focused on evacuating the victims.
“An operational incident occurred in the Bekasi Timur Station area, Daerah Operasi 1 Jakarta, which has impacted train services. We understand that this situation has caused concern for customers and families awaiting news,” said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba to reporters on Monday (27/4/2026).
“Currently, all efforts are focused on the evacuation process for passengers and crew, as well as handling victims at the scene, with the utmost priority on safety,” she added.
Anne conveyed apologies to all passengers. She emphasised that passengers and train staff are being attended to immediately.
“We extend our apologies for this incident. Our current focus is to ensure that all passengers and staff receive the quickest and best possible care. We are also continuing to coordinate with all relevant parties on the ground,” she stated.
Current Situation
In a received video, the station situation appears crowded with affected passengers. Fellow passengers are assisting each other in the evacuation process on the platform.
Some passengers are seen sleeping and sitting on the platform after experiencing the incident. One passenger is staunching a head wound using a towel.
The impacted KRL trainset is still positioned on the side of the platform. The KRL doors are open, and the lights are off.
In another video, a KAI Commuter Line trainset is seen crumpled after being struck by the long-distance trainset. Passengers are still visible inside the KRL trainset.
One passenger appears to have a head injury. Meanwhile, other passengers are heard screaming in panic inside the darkened train.
Passengers are rushing out. The station platform is crowded with passengers running about.
Meanwhile, motorists are unable to cross the tracks due to the obstruction from the stationary trains.
