KAI's Adi Soemarmo Airport Train Sees 24.9% Passenger Growth in First Five Months of 2026

The Adi Soemarmo Airport train service (KA BIAS) carried 375,032 passengers during the January to May 2026 period, marking a 24.9% increase compared to the 300,271 passengers recorded in the same period the previous year. This growth indicates that KA BIAS is becoming an increasingly strong agglomeration service, connecting the operational areas of Daop 6 Yogyakarta and Daop 7 Madiun. Initially introduced to strengthen access to and from Adi Soemarmo Airport, the service has since developed into a mobility option for communities along the Solo, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun corridor.

Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the passenger growth reflects the public’s need for comfortable, fast, and reliable short- to medium-distance intercity transport. ‘KA BIAS today plays a broader role in serving agglomeration mobility. From airport access, this service has evolved into a connector for community activities in Solo, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun,’ Anne said. The service recorded an additional 74,761 passengers in the first five months of 2026, averaging around 2,483 passengers per day.

KA BIAS serves key stations including Adi Soemarmo Airport, Kadipiro, Solo Balapan, Solo Jebres, Palur, Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun, according to the applicable schedule. KAI views the service as strategically important for bridging short- and medium-distance travel needs, offering a reliable alternative to road transport. ‘Mobility in the Solo–Madiun region requires a service that is flexible, affordable, and easy to access. KA BIAS meets that need with scheduled journeys and connectivity to important stations along the route,’ Anne explained.

KAI also emphasised that KA BIAS supports equitable access to public transport. For residents of Sragen, Ngawi, Magetan, and Madiun, the train provides a convenient option for reaching Solo and surrounding areas, while for Solo residents, it opens easier access to the western parts of East Java. With affordable fares, KA BIAS caters to students, workers, small business operators, families, and regular commuters.
