Kaimoeddin defies minister's order
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Governor La Ode Kaimoeddin said on Monday he would not revoke a 1999 decree on the appointment of 13 councillors in Kolaka regency as demanded by Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno.
Kaimoeddin said he should not obey the minister's order as the Supreme Court was processing his request for a review of the case.
The court ordered the governor to revoke the decree last January saying the councillors, who represent Golkar, were chosen by an illegal local election committee.
In his letter dated July 19, Hari asked Kaimoeddin to appoint new councillors.
But Kaimoeddin resisted on Monday, saying he would only comply with the order only if the court rejected his request for a review. -- Antara
