Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Kaimana Regency Government in Southwest Papua, together with the EcoNusa Foundation, is strengthening cross-sector collaboration to drive sustainable development through synergies in social, economic, and environmental programmes.

This strengthening of collaboration was affirmed at the Joint Collaboration Workshop for Sustainable Development held in Kaimana on Thursday (26/3).

Kaimana Regent Hasan Achmad stated that regional development cannot be carried out in isolation and requires the involvement of all stakeholders so that the results are truly felt by the community.

“Development cannot be done alone. Good cooperation from all stakeholders is needed so that the results are truly felt,” he said in his statement on Thursday.

For sustainable agriculture development, the Kaimana Regency Government, through the Food Security and Agriculture Office, is partnering with EcoNusa in training programmes, field schools, and on-site technical assistance to strengthen food security and boost the local economy.

EcoNusa previously assisted the community of Nagura Village in the Teluk Arguni Bawah District in developing organic rice since 2025. During the first harvest in September 2025, the land exceeding three hectares produced 3,245 kilograms of unhulled rice, which after processing became around 2,569 kilograms of rice.

Most of the harvest was used for family needs, while the remainder was stored as seeds.

This success has prompted plans to expand the land to seven hectares and replicate the programme in five other villages in the same district.

In addition to agriculture, the collaboration is also directed towards strengthening women’s economy through cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Office (DP3A), focusing on enhancing the capacity of community-based women entrepreneurs.

The programme continues previous assistance, including mentoring women’s business groups in Tanggaromi that produce banana crisps, and will be expanded to more business groups.

Papua’s Head of Birds Regional Manager Vilta Leefan stated that this multi-party collaboration is an important step to accelerate the achievement of regional development targets, particularly in strengthening sustainable local economies.

“It is hoped that more parties can get involved to accelerate the achievement of development targets, particularly in strengthening sustainable economies at the local level,” she said.

She assessed that the synergy between local government and development partners can also serve as an example for other regions that development planning will be more effective if supported by solid cooperation.
