KAI Yogyakarta confirms train services safe following earthquake

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta has confirmed that all train journeys in its operational region are safe following the earthquake that occurred on Thursday (20/8) at around 5.20 pm local time.

KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih said that to ensure operational safety, all train sets were temporarily halted for extraordinary stops to undergo thorough inspections of infrastructure and rolling stock.

“Post-earthquake inspection of infrastructure and rolling stock is a standard procedure that must be carried out by KAI to ensure safety aspects are maintained. At 5.42 pm local time, all lines were declared safe and train journeys resumed,” said Feni in a written statement.

The emergency inspections carried out by KAI’s technical team covered the reliability of bridges, railway tracks, supporting facilities, and the physical condition of train sets.

Several trains experienced delays, including KA 282 Bengawan (25 minutes), KA 707 Commuterline Palur–Yogyakarta (24 minutes), KA 2751f Cilace Trans (24 minutes), KA 7006 Batavia (24 minutes), KA 568 Bandara YIA (24 minutes), KA 86b Sancaka (23 minutes), KA 506 Prameks (22 minutes), KA 251b Jayakarta (19 minutes), and KA 2605 Cilawalu Service (19 minutes).

Additionally, KA 2722 Kalem Service (19 minutes), KA 247c Logawa (17 minutes), KA 62b Manahan (17 minutes), KA 107b Senja Utama Yk (15 minutes), KA 158 Wijaya Kusuma (14 minutes), KA 575a BIAS (12 minutes), KA 70 Malabar (11 minutes), KA 532 Bandara YIA (11 minutes), KA 151 Brantas (10 minutes), and KA 726 Commuterline Yogyakarta–Palur (10 minutes) were also delayed.

“KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta apologises for the inconvenience experienced by passengers and appreciates customers’ patience during the security inspection process,” he said.
