PT KAI Director General Bobby Rasyidin stated that so far, 1,800 illegal level crossings have been identified. In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives, the company will carry out improvements to meet safety requirements.

“We received instructions yesterday directly from the President together with the Minister that for the 1,800 crossings we have identified of this type, we will carry out enhancements or fulfilment of the necessary safety standards. This includes installing flyovers or automated gates with proper systems,” Bobby explained during a press conference at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

The company, he said, will not tolerate illegal level crossings. He stated that illegal level crossings that do not meet requirements will be closed.

“For safety, there is no compromise, as I mentioned earlier. No tolerance, no compromise. We have seen that even a slight disruption in safety aspects leads to so many casualties. Therefore, we will only check, together with the Director General of Railways, whether the requirements are met or not. If not, we will close them,” Bobby stated.

“Regarding community organisations, as I mentioned earlier, if they do not meet the safety requirements, we must close them. If closing requires legal channels, we will pursue them,” he added.

For information, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train collided with a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4). The incident resulted in 16 deaths and 88 injuries.
