PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division II West Sumatra is improving the quality of its public services by providing facilities that are friendly to women, children, and people with disabilities.

KAI Divre II West Sumatra Public Relations Head Reza Shahab stated in Padang on Tuesday that these supporting facilities are being provided evenly, from station entrance areas and passenger waiting rooms to supporting facilities inside train carriages.

“Services for female customers are realised through the provision of clean, comfortable, and hygienic lactation rooms as private spaces for mothers breastfeeding their babies at the station,” he said.

He noted that management also provides station toilets that are strictly separated between men and women to maintain privacy and provide an optimal sense of security for women.

For customers travelling with children, KAI Divre II West Sumatra is presenting safe and enjoyable playground facilities at certain stations.

“The playground facility serves as a positive activity space for children so they do not feel restless or bored while waiting for the train departure schedule,” he said.

In addition to physical facilities, child-friendly services are also realised through special educational group travel programmes to introduce the characteristics of mass transportation to students from an early age.

Meanwhile, inclusive services for customers with special needs or disabilities are accommodated through the provision of ready-to-use wheelchairs in the station area.

KAI has also installed guiding blocks along station floors to facilitate accessibility and mobility for visually impaired persons.

This accessibility is reinforced by the creation of special priority lanes and the provision of disabled-friendly toilets designed according to the standard needs of wheelchair users.

“All these physical facilities are supported by the readiness of station officers who are prepared to provide responsive and professional assistance services to all priority group customers,” he said.

A passenger named Sastrawati said that facilities provided by KAI West Sumatra, such as the playground, greatly assist parents bringing children.

“Sometimes while waiting for the train, children get fussy or just play with their mobile phones. This playground really helps to divert the child’s attention,” she said.
