KAI to prepare shuttle service from Kudus to railway stations in Semarang
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Region (Daop) 4 Semarang, Central Java, plans to expand its services for residents of Kudus Regency by introducing a shuttle service connecting Kudus with railway stations in Semarang.
“This service programme is part of our effort to build connectivity between Kudus and Semarang, namely by providing a shuttle or pick-up transport service operating regularly between Kudus and railway stations in Semarang,” said M Arie Fathurrohman, Executive Vice President of KAI Daop 4 Semarang, in Kudus on Tuesday.
He said the shuttle service would make it easier for Kudus residents to access rail transport via stations in Semarang.
According to him, the shuttle is planned to depart from the former Kudus Station area in Wergu Wetan, Kota District, Kudus, heading to one of the railway stations in Semarang.
The plan offers an alternative way to connect Kudus residents with rail services, given that the railway line in Kudus is no longer available.
“As for the service, since the track no longer exists, we will strive to connect Kudus with Semarang via shuttle,” he explained.
Arie said the shuttle operation plan is still in the permitting process. PT KAI hopes the service can begin running next year.
In addition to the transport service, PT KAI will also provide a train ticket booking counter in Kudus.
Residents will therefore be able to book tickets and use the shuttle service in one place.
“Tickets can be purchased here as well. So the service can be done through one door,” he said.
Nevertheless, PT KAI has not yet determined the number of shuttle vehicles to be prepared or the fares to be charged to passengers.
Discussions on the details of the service development are still ongoing, particularly as the business development aspect is handled by PT KAI’s head office.
Kudus Regent Sam’ani Intakoris welcomed the plan positively, as it makes rail services increasingly accessible, especially for Kudus residents wishing to travel by train.
