PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI Daerah Operasi 9 Jember, will soon launch the KA Sangkuriang service on the Ketapang-Bandung return route. This new service is scheduled to officially commence operations from Ketapang Station on 2 May 2026, serving as an alternative for long-distance travel that prioritises comfort, efficiency, and inter-regional connectivity.

KA Sangkuriang comes equipped with a modern and diverse array of facilities. It consists of one compartment carriage with a capacity of 16 seats offering privacy and exclusivity, four stainless steel executive carriages with a total of 200 seats (50 seats each), and three stainless steel economy carriages with a total of 240 seats (80 seats each). The consist also includes one restaurant carriage and one power car to support passenger comfort during the journey.

During its journey, KA Sangkuriang will cover a distance of up to 1,002 kilometres, passing through Jember, Lumajang, Surabaya, Solo, Yogyakarta, Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, and ending at Bandung. This underscores KAI’s commitment to providing transportation services that directly reach wider regions.

Manager of Legal and Public Relations for Daop 9 Jember, Cahyo Widiantoro, stated that the introduction of KA Sangkuriang represents a strategic step in enhancing service quality for customers.

“KA Sangkuriang brings a fresh atmosphere to train travel services, not only adding to transportation options but also delivering a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for the public. With a direct Ketapang-Bandung route without transfers, customers can now enjoy long-distance journeys more conveniently,” said Cahyo on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

Furthermore, Cahyo added that this service is expected to drive growth in the tourism and regional economy sectors. Along the route, passengers can easily access various tourism potentials, from natural beauty and culinary richness to historical and cultural values scattered across the regions traversed.

As a token of appreciation to customers, KAI is offering a special promotion of a 50 percent discount for the inaugural Bandung-Ketapang journey on 1 May 2026. This programme is hoped to attract public interest in trying the new experience with KA Sangkuriang.

KAI urges all prospective passengers to book tickets through the official Access by KAI application or other official sales channels to ensure ease, security, and comfort in the transaction process.

With the arrival of KA Sangkuriang, PT KAI Daop 9 Jember is optimistic about continuing to improve the quality of public transportation services while strengthening inter-regional connectivity in Indonesia.
